Sacred Sound, Sacred Silence with Hafizullah Chishti, Sunday, January 15th, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM, in Cranston, RI.

"Since all things are made by the power of sound, of vibration, so everything is made by a portion thereof, and one can create one's world by the same power. Among all aspects of knowledge, the knowledge of sound is supreme, for all aspects of knowledge depend upon the knowing of form - except that of sound, which is beyond all form. ... If vibratory activity is properly controlled, one may experience all life's joy and at the same time not be enslaved by it."
- Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan, The Music of Life: the Inner Nature and Effects of Sound

In this workshop, we will explore practices of sound and how they can support our journey of awakening. Participants will learn "harmonic singing" and its application to Sufi mantric practice (wazifa and zikr), how the right kind of music can be used in meditation and what kinds of music evoke recognition of the different Planes of Existence in our being.

No prior experience with sound practices is necessary, nor even to be a singer. All that is necessary is a desire for self-discovery.

Tuition: $45, $30 for students, seniors, and the chronically impecunious. For further information or to register, call Sufi Order of Rhode Island at 401.781.9069 or via email at nab518#coxn
